Holistic Retreat Daily Schedule

Here’s an idea of what to expect when you join us to cultivate soulful satisfaction in a Holistic Retreat.

The daily itinerary is entirely optional; you craft your own contentment.

6:45 - 7:45 - Sunrise silent meditation or movement (self-guided) - Shala

Join us for a self-guided open group sit in spacious silence. You’re welcome to bring your own recorded meditation and earbuds if you’d like as long as it does not disrupt other meditators. Some folks use this time for reading or journaling. If you’re new to meditation, just ask our staff for recommendations. We recommend downloading the app Insight Timer prior to your stay with us.

7:30 - 9:15 - First Breakfast - Dining Room

Oatmeal, chia, and fruit, oh my. A little something to fill your belly before morning practices.

8:00 - 9:00 - The Santosha Series - Shala

The Santosha Series is a thirty-six posture series we designed that we repeat each morning. The principal objective of the Santosha Series is to enable our yogis’ home practice. Our teachers provide a step-by-step guide to learning the Santosha Series so that, as you leave retreat, you bring home a daily ritual that can be practiced anytime you need it. The teacher gives you a printed copy of the Santosha Series to explore at your own pace, too. While many fixed-series practices focus on discipline and perfection, we have designed the Santosha Series to empower each practitioner—regardless of prior experience, age, flexibility, or strength—to practice at home in ways that respect each practitioner’s body and evolving abilities. And we’re not like most yoga studios: bring a mug of coffee or tea to class (wild, we know!)

9:15 - 10:15 - Morning Flow - Shala

Our teachers lead you through an energetic and joyful asana practice to wake you up. This is a class for folks familiar with or curious about Vinyasa, Power Flow, or Slow Flow styles of yoga.

11:00 - 12:00 - Second Breakfast - Dining Room

A hearty brunch to carry you through the day.

Midday

Enjoy a few hours of free time to slow down. Or not? Book Healing Arts appointments with our gentle practitioners. Head out on excursions for paddling, fishing, or hiking with local Maine Guides (by arrangement prior to your retreat). Explore local swimming holes or sun yourself by the river with a good book in summer. Strap on some snowshoes or shred the slopes in winter. Get outside. Nap. You name it—remember: this is your retreat, not ours, so take the time and space you need to rejuvenate.

2:00 - 3:00 - Luncheon - Dining Room

A light meal of soup, salad, and casual fare to keep you focused and present.

4:30 - 5:30 - Welcome Circle; Philosophy Talk - Shala

Yoga is a whole lot more than physical postures! We gather to discuss the philosophy surrounding yoga, mindfulness, and more. We also introduce ourselves to new arrivals, so grab a mug of tea and let’s get together to create a warm, loving community (sangha) of learning for everyone.

5:45 - 6:45 - Afternoon Gentle Yoga; Metta Meditation - Shala

Our teachers lead you through our daily gentle yoga practice. This is a class for folks familiar with or curious about Restorative, Gentle, or Yin styles of yoga. Metta is a Buddhist practice of lovingkindness meditation. We send you off into the evening with a meditation on compassion, kindness, and warmth. Don’t worry if you’ve never tried meditating or metta before: we’ll guide you through this gentle practice during one of our favorite times of day.

7:00 - 8:00 - Evening Meal - Dining Room

Wrap up the day with some inspiring conversation and meaningful connection over delicious nosh, craft cocktails, and unique mocktails.

Evening

Retire to the Great Room or snuggle up by the fire pit. Stroll out to the river for a polar plunge or stargazing. Grab a book and head to the Salon. Spend some time journaling to recap your day. Rest, digest, and rejuvenate.
