Arriving Here
By car: 30 minutes from Farmington and Sugarloaf. 2 hours from Portland. 3.5 hours from Boston. 1 hour from the Canadian border. We always recommend traveling by car for maximum flexibility.

By train: The Amtrak Downeaster provides service between Boston, MA; Dover, NH; and Portland, ME, which connects to trains from New York, Washington D.C., and beyond. Please be aware that, if traveling through Boston from points south, you must change stations in Boston from South Station to North Station. Our reservationist will gladly explain further.

By air: Portland International Jetport (PWM), 2 hours south. Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), 3.5 hours south. Either rent a car at the airport or travel by train, shuttle, and/or private car. Our reservationist will gladly help you coordinate transit.

By Santosha shuttle (from Portland): Prior to making your retreat reservation, contact reservations@santosha.org to confirm availability, which is not guaranteed on all dates. Rate is $199 round trip/passenger. At present, shuttle service is available for Retreat Guests, not Inn Lodging guests.

By private transfer: Contact Dan Parks (207.233.1142) for black car transfers to and from Portland and other southern points. Rate is $250 in each direction, shared among all riders.

Please also note that, while you may be able to hail an Uber or Lyft from PWM to us, due to our rural location, you will be unable to hail any ride share services to return.

Locale
Set on the Carrabassett River, our sleepy mountain village of Kingfield is now home to little more than 1,000 residents, nearly identical to the size of the population when Hillholm was built. At the gateway to the mountains at Sugarloaf Mountain Resort and Bigelow Preserve, Kingfield is the last stop before the elevation starts climbing. Ski Magazine describes Kingfield as “the most beautifully preserved ski town east of Aspen.”

For the locavores among us, Maine boasts some of the best eating and drinking in the nation: just ask Bon Appétit magazine, which named Portland America’s Restaurant City of the Year. North of Portland’s bustling culinary scene, you’ll find plenty of gems in the mountains, including The Coplin Dinner House in Stratton for farm-to-table elegant plates. For more casual comfort food, check out Rolling Fatties and Longfellow’s in Kingfield. For your alpine start, don’t miss a stick-to-your-bones breakfast at The Woodsman. If you’re a beer fan following The Maine Beer Trail, don’t miss brews from Tumbledown Brewing in Farmington and Ambition Brewing in Wilton.
