Christian Barter’s first collection of poetry, The Singers I Prefer (CavanKerry Press, 2005) was a finalist for the 2006 Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize from The Nation and the Academy of American Poets; his second, In Someone Else's House (BkMk Press, 2013)was the winner of the 2014 Maine Literary Award for Poetry; and BOA Editions publised his book-length poem, Bye-Bye Land, in 2017. He was a 2008-2009 Hodder Fellow in poetry at Princeton University and has been a fellow at Yaddo and at the MacDowell Colony. Barter’s poems have appeared in a number of select periodicals, including the Georgia ReviewNorth American Review, and The American Scholar, and his work has been featured on The Writers Almanac and in Poets & Writers magazine. His primary occupation is as a trail crew supervisor at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine, planning and overseeing construction and rehabilitation of hiking trails on Mount Desert Island. He served as Poet Laureate of Acadia National Park in 2016, the centennial year of both Acadia and the National Park Service.
